Summer Camp 2016
One five-day session:

Mon - Fri
June 20 - 24

20111 Boetger Rd.
Manchester, MI 48158
ACTIVITIES

Each day we will be having a mounted and unmounted riding lesson, arts and crafts projects, games, time to swim and -hopefully- time to play mounted games as well.

The daily arts and crafts projects are tailored to the specific needs of each camper and will be useful items that they will need for the coming show season or just for happy riding around the farm.

On Thursday, we will have a camping overnight and bonfire. Camp will begin at 2:30 that day.

Riding instruction is individualized to develop a skill set  that matches each camper's riding goals for the season.

We will, of course, be making friends as we learn to become better riders and safer equestrians.

CAMPERS

Camp sizes ranges from 10 to 16 campers.  Bring your own horse or lesson horses are available. Any student of any age and riding ability who is interested in camp is encouraged to contact Kelsey.

COUNSELORS

Every camper will be taught by Kelsey. Kelsey will also be enlisting the help of older students to act as "Leadership" helpers as well. To learn more about Kelsey's equestrian experience please visit "Who We Are." Also, Kelsey has been a riding instructor at a summer camp in northern Wisconsin for 8 summers, after being a camper for 8 years (Red Pine for Girls). Kelsey incorporates many of her camp adventures into the week spent at Watership Downs.

COST

$425.00 for the full week. Full Payment is due by the first day of each camp. Fee includes all instruction, arts and crafts supplies, overnight activities and 2 meals, and daily snacks. Please pack a sack lunch and bring water bottles.

Very Important Note!! Availability is first come, first served, based on receipt of a $100 deposit. This is of particular note to students who are partially leasing horses: first receipt reserves the right to use the leased horse for the week. Students signing up later will have the opportunity to gain experience on a different lesson horse for the week. Please make checks payable to Kelsey Overbey Boos.

RIDING DEMONSTRATION

Riders are given customized shirts to wear for our culminating activity on Friday.  All family members are invited to attend  - time to be determined.  Camp ends following this activity.

NOTE!!!

Typically, in Eventing, riders choose their own "theme" colors - generally 2 main colors and a third accent color (colors that the horse and rider wear and that they coordinate with their tack and various accessories). The Camp crafts may include items that the rider might want to create in her own colors. For planning purposes for supplies for Camp, the Information Form asks for the rider's theme colors.

Paperwork:
Please download and fill out a WD Waiver if you do not already ride with Kelsey (available on the "Forms" page). Please bring this form with you on the first day of Camp.

Items to Bring Daily:
Lunch, water bottles, sunscreen, bathing suit and towel, riding helmet and heeled boots. Also suggested: treats for horses and smock or "nasty" clothes for protection during art projects. And... is there a parent willing to contribute a large tent for the overnight?

Tentative Daily Schedule:

9:00 Arrive and help with basic feeding chores; mini unmounted lessons included (on Monday we will do an icebreaker instead)

10:00-11:30 group riding lesson

11:30-12:00 untack

12:00-12:30 lunch

Thursday:
Instead of the normal 9:00-2:30 schedule, Camp on this day begins at 3:30 and we have a similar instructional format but then have a bonfire, watch horse movies and sleep in tents. If your child didn't actually feel comfortable spending the night, they could be picked up after dinner. A front porch is available for tents if the weather does not look good.

Friday:
Riding Demonstration. All family members and friends are welcome to attend. Wear sturdy shoes to be able to join in the fun. Typically, this begins at 10:00, but it depends on the number of campers.  CONFIRM TIME WITH KELSEY ON WEDNESDAY or THURSDAY.

Beginner Horse Show
3:30 PM on Friday

To wrap up the week, there is an actual schooling show that takes place on grounds beginning at 3:30 in the afternoon.  This is fun but NOT REQUIRED!  The show is judged with ribbons.  Levels vary from poles on the ground through preliminary height show jump courses.  There are also a few different dressage suitability classes.

There is a Lead Line division for siblings or friends who might want to participate.

Many prizes are awarded as well as Champion and Reserve Champion awards for every level.
